Clay Canoes earthy approach to ceramics is steeped in simple primitive traditions, made from slabs of clay and our own handmade glazes, each piece unique in its imperfections.
The forms aesthetic has a predominantly Japanese influence. This was unintentional but as we adore the quiet majesty of Japanese ceramics we are happily embracing their “Wabi Sabi” approach.
Our journey has been to find a harmonious balance between form, texture, colour and functionality. The works need to be robust but not dumpy, elegant but not precious, complimentary in colour but not matchy, stand on their own but also sing with food!
